Oluwatosin Medeyonmi Oyeyemi: A Vessel of Light and Change

 Her voice news

Can we meet you?

I am Oluwatosin Medeyonmi Oyeyemi (née Akojenu), born on the 11th of November, 1989, in Badagry Town to the family of Honorable Senayon and Selome Akojenu. I am a linguist by academic qualification, a public speaker, civil servant, mental health coach, and minister of God. I am happily married and blessed with lovely children.

Can you take us back to the moment you first realized your voice could make a difference?

I have always been “the girl with the microphone” whether singing, speaking, or preaching right from a very young age, even as far back as primary school. I knew then that I was meant to use my voice to effect positive changes in my community and in the lives of everyone I could reach. The feedback was always the same: people felt blessed and encouraged whenever I spoke or sang.

As a woman navigating your field, what unique barriers have you faced and how have you broken through them?

The biggest barrier has been unwarranted attention from the opposite sex, and at times, jealousy and discouragement from other women. I recognized early that such attention was a distraction from my goals, so while remaining humble and friendly, I created a visible boundary by living according to God’s principles. Men could see I wasn’t a plaything, but a vessel of value.

I also learned to hold my head high in the face of criticism or disguised jealousy. Self-motivation became my shield, and with God’s help and the support of loved ones, I kept moving forward.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind, and what advice would you give to young women aspiring to leadership?

I want my name to bring genuine smiles and thanksgiving to God whenever it’s mentioned. My aim is to be remembered as a channel of God’s love and light who brought positive change wherever I went.

To younger women, I say: hold on to your vision with responsibility and diligence. Don’t follow the crowd; dare to stand out for a good reason. Greatness is never easy, but if you walk the tough path prayerfully, your story will surely end in glory.
