Her Voice News recently sat down with Mrs. Mesewaku Bunmi Omowunmi, a distinguished health professional and Assistant Director of Community Health Services at Ojo Local Government under the Primary Health Care Board. At 54, she continues to inspire women with her strong dedication, resilience, and passion for humanity.
Can we meet you, ma?
My name is Mrs. Mesewaku Bunmi Omowunmi. I am from Ekiti State, married to Mr. Babatunde Mesewaku, and blessed with children. By profession, I am a health worker and currently serve as Assistant Director of Community Health Services. I am also a devoted Christian, and I have served in the public health sector for many years.
Can you take us back to the moment you first realized your voice could make a difference as a woman?
As a woman, I have always known the importance of carrying myself with dignity and confidence. The way you present yourself anywhere in the world defines who you are. I believe a woman must have confidence, be bold, and never settle for less. That has been my guiding principle throughout life.
As a woman navigating your field, what unique barriers have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
I truly love my profession caring for patients gives me joy. But it is never easy to watch patients whose health does not improve. The stress of the job can also be challenging, but over the years, with experience, I have learned to balance the demands of my work.
At times, I have also faced situations where men tried to undermine me simply because I am a woman. In such cases, I always stand firm either by correcting them or disagreeing where necessary. A woman must be bold, intelligent, and very smart to hold her ground.
What legacy do you hope to leave behind, and what advice would you give to young women aspiring to take leadership roles?
I want to be remembered as a woman of substance who served with dedication and impacted lives positively. My advice to young women is this: be God-fearing, confident, and hardworking. Always remain open to learning, because with God, all things are possible.
Her Voice News celebrates Mrs. Bunmi Omowunmi Mesewaku as a role model whose story reflects courage, humility, and the power of a woman’s voice in leadership and service.
