How Ambassador Motunrayo Mariam Williams-JohnsonTurned Her Pain into a Platform of Hope and Empowerment
In this exclusive sit down with Her Voice News, Ambassador Motunrayo Mariam Williams-Johnson, an educator, philanthropist, author, and purpose driven politician, opens up about her life, her passion for humanity, and the mission behind her foundation, KAMI EMPOWERMENT FOUNDATION.
Can we meet you, ma? Kindly tell us about yourself and your brand.
I am Ambassador Motunrayo Mariam Williams-Johnson, an educator, philanthropist, author, and relationship coach.
I currently serve as an Assistant Chief Education Officer with the Local Government Service Commission, and I’m also the Founder of Kami Empowerment Foundation, established in 2012.
Beyond my profession, I’m passionate about helping people find direction in life, that’s why I wrote books like "Life Navigator", "How To Establish And Run An NGO Effectively", and "Sex Is Life".
I also run the Kami-J Fan Club and Kami Empowerment Multipurpose Cooperative Society, which empower youths, widows, and women through mentorship, advocacy, and entrepreneurship support.
What inspired you to start the Kami Empowerment Foundation?
The inspiration came from a deeply personal experience.
When my son battled hearing and speech challenges, it became one of the most defining moments of my life.
After his recovery, I knew God wanted me to use that story to bring hope to others. That’s how the Kami Empowerment Foundation was born on my 30th birthday in 2012.
Since then, we’ve reached countless lives: children in correctional homes, widows, orphans, the less privileged, and victims of domestic abuse.
Our mission is simple, to reshape lives and affect destinies.
What are some of the achievements and milestones of your foundation so far?
By God’s grace, we’ve been able to touch lives in many ways.
We’ve supported hearing impaired children, provided palliatives to struggling families, offered scholarships, and placed unemployed youths in jobs.
In 2024, we expanded our vision by launching the Kami Empowerment Multipurpose Cooperative Society, which already has over 70 members benefiting from empowerment programs.
We’ve also helped link drug abuse victims to rehabilitation centers and have organized several advocacy campaigns against suicide and domestic violence.
You’ve done a lot in education, philanthropy, and now politics. Do you intend to go deeper into politics?
Yes, I am already an active politician but with a difference.
My mission in politics is purpose driven, not profit driven. I’ve always believed that leadership is service, not status.
With the little I have, I’ve continued to support people beyond my immediate community. I represent a new generation of leaders whose goal is transformation, not personal gain.
In your opinion, should Nigerians continue trusting established figures like Ashiwaju, or should new voices be given a chance?
There’s absolutely no harm in trusting leaders like Ashiwaju. He’s a man of great ideas and solid strategies.
Nigeria is in a rebuilding phase, and he’s implementing his promises. We may not see all the results immediately, but progress is happening.
That said, new political voices also have a role to collaborate, not compete. Together, we can build the Nigeria we dream of.
You’ve been running an NGO for over a decade. What advice do you have for aspiring founders?
First, anyone who wants to start an NGO must have a genuine heart for service.
You’ll face moments when you’re in need yourself, yet you’ll still have to help others.
That’s where character and discipline come in. You must be willing to sacrifice, stay consistent, and always put people before profit.
Build resilience, stay innovative, and remember your goal is impact, not recognition.
Final word to women and young leaders out there?
Never underestimate your voice or your influence.
As women, we’re not just nurturers we’re nation builders.
Whatever your calling is, pursue it with purpose and integrity.
You were made for more so rise and make your mark.
